Dr. James Low named a member of the Order of Canada

The Museum of Health Care congratulates Dr. James Low on his appointment to the Order of Canada on July 1, 2014.

During the 80's, he became interested in Kingston General Hospital historical archives and the many medical artifacts that had been in storage. After several years of effort, the museum of health care opened in the Ann Baillie Nurses Residence, now a National Historic Site.  In spite of many obstacles he has been the major promoter of the Museum and the pro bono Executive Director for the past 20 years. His passion and determination has brought the Museum to its national state as the only institution in Canada whose sole mandate is to preserve the legacy of health and health care. There are 4 professional staff, thousands of visitors each years including school children, over 35,000 artifacts and the website and online resources receive over 70,000 visits each year.
