Call for Community Engagement: WWI

We need your help!

The Museum of Health Care is developing a new exhibit in 2014 “The Canadian Army Medical Corps: Health care and heroism in the First World War.”

One of the aspects that we want to incorporate in this exhibit is personal items or heirlooms, or family stories that speak to healthcare experiences during the war. In addition to exploring the health and medical treatment of combatants overseas, we will also be addressing how health care on the home front changed as a result of the war -for example, the treatment of shell-shock or public health initiatives to prevent communicable diseases.

Anything that you have that could contribute to our exhibition would be most welcome -- a family story, or a picture, artefact, archival record that you would loan to us. If you have any questions, or have something that would illuminate this aspect of the war, please contact Kathy Karkut ([email protected], 613-548-2419) at the Museum, with any or all of the following information:

  • Your contact information
  • If you'd like to loan an object:
    • Details about the object. I.e. original owner, what is unique about the object, where/how it was used.
    • A photo of the object
  • If you'd like to contribute a story:
    • Summary of the oral history, including as many names and dates as possible

Once the exhibition plan is complete in fall 2014, you will be contacted by our curator about whether we can include your contribution.

Thank you so much for your support, and we hope to hear from you soon.
