Canada's First Neurologist: A Story of Paralysis, Dogs and Royalty
A Public Lecture by Dr. Gregory Baran

Dr David Shirres was Canada's first Neurologist at the turn of the 20th Century. The story of his life and work will be explored. An emphasis will be given to his most famous paper "The Regeneration of Spinal Neurons in Man" in which a patient with a total paralysis improved after spinal cord transplantation.

Dr. Gregory Baran is a full time family physician with an interest in medical antiques and the history of medicine. He portrays the role of an 18-19c Military Surgeon.
