It's a' BODY BATTERY!

In fact, it's a Mioxrles Electric Body Battery, made around 1910. At the time, electricity was 'the latest thing', both in people's homes and for medical treatments.

The body battery was advertised mainly as a treatment for sexual problems, although the makers claimed that it would help many other conditions. The set includes different attachments designed to direct the electric current appropriately for 'Gents' or 'Ladies'.

It was sold directly to the public for home use, and the $20 price was a substantial sum at the time. But, buyer beware! Most 'electric' belts were not even electric. The felt was saturated with red pepper to give the wearer a sensation of warmth, while the 'electrode' discs were cheap, non-conductive tin painted to look like copper or zinc.
