What claim is this advertiser making for his product?
Both the image and the words suggest that the patent medicine was made and prescribed by physicians. While some doctors did develop and market patent medicines, the products advertised on trade cards were not usually prescribed by doctors. In fact, many of the "doctors" who appear in the product names were fictional characters.
Why would advertisers try to associate their product with the medical profession?
